York County Literacy Scholarship
York County Community College (YCCC) has generously offered to fund a full one-year scholarship to a Literacy Volunteers of Greater Sanford (LVGS) student. The only requirement is that the student hold a high school diploma or GED. The LVGS Board has formed a YCCC Scholarship Subcommittee to review applications from any interested students. The student must be enrolled as full time at LVGS, meeting with his or her tutor on a weekly basis.

To apply for the 09-10 academic year, the Literacy Scholarship application must arrive at the Literacy Volunteers of Greater Sanford office by April 15, 2009. You may request an application by email and submit your completed application to the same e-mail address or by mailing to LVGS, 883 Main Street, Sanford, ME 04073. Call 324-2486 for more information.

Learner Advisory Committee (LAC)
This LVGS student group has three main goals: to raise literacy awareness, encourage student participation, and organize fund raisers for student scholarships and instructional material. Students are currently raising money to fund a trip to the 2009 Literacy Leadership Conference in Washington DC.

You can now donate your bottles and cans to our student group by bringing them to Alliance Redemption (located in the former Hancock Lumber building near the intersection of Rt. 4 & 109). Please mark your returnables bags with LVGS to insure our office receives the funds.
